Farpointe Provides Access Control Solution for Standalone and Remote Access Points

Extends Ranger® Line with RER-11 Edge Receiver

San Jose, Calif., USA - May 23, 2022 – Farpointe Data, the access control industry’s OEM for RFID credentials and readers, launched a new long-range receiver that offers single-location point-of-control, ideal for standalone and remote access points where implementation of primary networked electronic access control is difficult or impractical.

“The RER-11 Long-Range Edge Receiver—a new member of the Ranger® line—was originally designed with gated communities in mind,” explained Scott Lindley, general manager of Farpointe Data. “Our channel partners have been requesting a solution where residents could conveniently access their individual garages with the same Ranger Transmitter used to access the main entrance gate of the community. The RER-11 provides that solution.”

Another prime application for the RER-11 is a remote gate or outbuilding that is difficult to network to a main access control system. With an Edge Receiver installed at the access point, at the push of a button, end users can gain access with a Ranger Transmitter, or the RER-11 can be paired with a Wiegand reader—via its built-in Wiegand interface—allowing access with mobile credentials, contactless smartcards, proximity keyfobs or keypad PINs. The same Edge Receiver may also be used in conventional door applications where no active management, monitoring, or audit trail is required. “The Ranger Edge Receiver extends an electronic access control system,” Lindley emphasized, “to locations and access points that in the past, would not have been controlled.”

The RER-11 Edge Receiver offers up to 100 feet of read range and on-board credential enrollment. A key advantage of the Ranger Edge receiver is that all configuration is done directly on the unit, eliminating the need for separate programming devices.
